Chinese private equity firm Hony Capital has bought the UK restaurant chain Pizza Express. The chain has over 500 stores. A little over 400 of those stores are in the UK and 22 of them are located in China. Earlier this year a new Pizza Express was opened in the Chinese capital of Beijing.
The sale saw 900 million pounds changing hands between Hony Capital, a Chinese private equity firm and the UK Gondola Group which also owns UK pizza chains ASK Italian and Zizzi.
The future of Pizza Express seems to be in international expansion. China is ripe for many more stores to be opened in the coming years and there are also other international stores in Saudi Arabia, India and Bali. Hony Capital also has stated they will continue to expand in the UK.
